New Room

Yesterday we were moved to another room in the C4 Unit.  We’ve lost our “luxurious” [to be read: our own bathroom] single to another patient who needed to be isolated and are now sharing a quad [no bathroom]with 3 other babies.

In other news, Topher is still gaining weight and he even nursed for 50 minutes yesterday!  We’ve been advised to just let him nurse for 30 minutes so as to not tire him out from all the effort, but I was reluctant to pull him off while he was still actively nursing.  He didn’t seem too tired afterwards.  In fact, he was wide awake and looking around.  We’ve even discovered that his hearing is intact: the nurse was fidgeting with his pump (he’s still on continuous feeds) and it beeped loudly, startling Topher and causing his eyes to widen in surprise.  I asked her to make it beep again just to see him react, but she just laughed.

Also, Topher is now allowed to feed from the bottle (or mom) 3 times a day.  Shane has decided to sacrifice an hour of his precious sleeping time before work to go in early to feed him.  I still get my evening time to nurse.  As soon as he’s off his continuous feeds, he’ll be put on a more rigorous schedule.

I’m really happy to hear of Topher’s progress with feeding and weight gain! How wonderful! We’re keeping you in our prayers, and we’ll pray that his eye surgery was successful We went you our best.
